BLEED PURPLE ANNOUNCES $10 MILLION “UNITE” CAMPAIGN
Coeur D’Alene, ID—March 20, 2007— The Bleed Purple Foundation announced today that it is launching the UNITE Campaign, to raise $10 million (by the end of 2010) to support college students who have been diagnosed with cancer.
The UNITE campaign is a comprehensive fundraising effort which will support college students in two key areas: Learning and Life.
The Learning component will provide Tuition Bill Relief grants to relieve college students of various tuition payments while they are battling cancer. It will also include the Daniel Burkett III Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to five members of Greek organizations who exhibit academic excellence, high social standards, and selfless service within their college communities.
The Life component will provide Medical Bill Relief Grants, to help college students to pay medical bills while they are going through cancer treatment.
In addition, the UNITE Campaign will begin raising money for the Bleed Purple Cancer Research and Treatment Center. It will be a state of the art cancer research and support center for children and young adults, who will receive top care for cancer without feeling like they are stuck in a hospital while receiving treatment.
“This ambitious endeavor is still several years from being a reality,” said Scott Chesrown, President and CEO of Bleed Purple and a current Senior at the University of San Diego, “However, I feel that the Bleed Purple Cancer Research and Treatment Center is the right direction for Bleed Purple to be heading in."
“Our foundation is proud to operate on zero administrative costs. Our employees are dedicated indivduals who do their job without receiving compensation. That means every penny donated to the UNITE Campaign will go directly to supporting college students with cancer or to help raise future donations for distribution.”
The Bleed Purple Foundation is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2006 by members of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at the University of San Diego. It began as a local campaign to help a brother who was diagnosed with stage III-B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. But Bleed Purple has expanded into a national support organization, providing tuition and medical grants to anyone in the Greek system who has been diagnosed with cancer.
